Meet our Dancing Classrooms Pittsburgh teaching artists, all of whom are trained extensively in the methods developed by Pierre Dulaine.

Rozana Sweeney
Ms. Rozana Sweeney began dancing at the age of nine in Berlin, Germany. As a youth dancer, she was a German Champion in the Standard dances, European and World Finalist and as an adult amateur dancer she held and defended a variety of national and international titles including German National Standard Champion and Latin Finalist. As a professional dancer, she was the German National Latin Finalist and Blackpool, England Professional Risings Star Latin Finalist. Since 1991 Ms. Rozana has taught and coached all levels of Ballroom and Latin Dancing throughout the United States. She is the Director and Instructor at Art & Style Dance Studio.

Terry Sweeney
Mr. Terry Sweeney has been dancing, competing, and teaching for more than 25 years. He has held numerous titles including the U.S. Professional Rising Star Rhythm Champion, U.S. Professional Rhythm Finalist, U..S Professional Rising Star Latin Finalist, and Regional Open Professional Latin Champion. Mr. Terry has taught and coached all levels of ballroom and Latin dancing throughout the United States and has successfully trained and danced with many amateur dancers into U.S. pro/am finals. Mr. Terry is Artistic Director and Instructor at Art & Style Dance Studio.

Rozana and Terry Sweeney

Together, the Sweeneys have competed both nationally and internationally. They were U.S. National Rising Star Latin and American Smooth finalists and finalists in all major open U.S. competitions, establishing them as one of the top Latin and American Smooth couples in the country. Mr. Terry and Ms. Rozana are members of the National Dance Council of America, PDF and DIVIDA. They are nationally recognized adjudicators with the North American Dance Teachers Association. In 2002, they retired from professional competitive dancing and opened their studio to teach, coach, and inspire other dancers. Both have served as teaching artists for Dancing Classrooms Pittsburgh since its début in 2009.

Gena Melago
Ms. Gena Melago has been dancing since she was five years old. At a young age, she focused on ballet and jazz. Later, she fell in love with Latin dance.

Since 2000, she has studied with the Sweeneys. Ms. Gena has danced competitively – first in the Pro/Am division, now in the Amateur division – for four years in Cha-cha, Samba, Rumba, and Jive. She competes in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Maryland, and Washington, DC.

“Dancing Classrooms has been a whole new experience for me,” says Ms. Gena. “Every day I walk into class it feels like we are taken away on a new adventure. It’s so exciting to watch these amazingly intuitive young people learn to dance together and treat each other with respect.”

She holds master’s degree in instructional leadership from Robert Morris University and works as a specialist in the prevention department of Mercy Behavioral Health, part of the  Pittsburgh Mercy Health System.

 

Ashley Douglasashley douglas

Mrs. Ashley Douglas has always loved to dance. At age 14, she began training and competing in jazz, ballet, lyrical, and hip hop.  Following a serious car accident in 2005, Ashley had to put dancing on hold. It was during her recovery that she found the joy of group fitness classes. In 2007, Ashley began leading group fitness classes and became an AFAA-certified fitness instructor.  She is currently a Master Instructor for the Masala Bhangra Workout, which has given her the opportunity to travel the country and appear on Good Morning America with founder, Sarina Jain.

With a BS in Communications from GenevaCollege, Ashley strives to combine her dance background with her education to bring something special to each Dancing Classrooms class.  Miss Ashley trained this past summer with Mr. Pierre Dulaine who taught her the essentials of Dancing Classrooms.

Jennifer MilliganDSCN5901

Ms. Jennifer Milligan has been dancing since the age of three. Dancing has always been a big part of her life.She has studied ballet,point,tap and jazz.  Currently she teaches dance at several local dance studios. Her classes include ballet,tap,jazz,hip hop,lyrical and mommy and me.

In addition to dance Ms. Jen is also certified in group fitness and Pilates from the National Exercise Trainers Association.She has worked for many area fitness centers including C.C.A.C.

Most importantly, Ms. Jen is the proud Mom  of  four beautiful children.

She feels so privileged to be a part of such a wonderful program as Dancing Classrooms.Miss Jen also trained this past summer with Mr. Pierre Dulaine who taught her the essentials of Dancing Classrooms.
