Fall semifinal team match set for December 15

The Colors of the Rainbow semifinal team match for the fall 2012 semester of Dancing Classrooms Pittsburgh will take place on Saturday, December 15 from 10 a.m. until noon. The excitement is building for the Dancing Classrooms Pittsburgh Colors of the Rainbow final team match. Eight elementary schools — four from the fall 2011 semester and four from the winter/spring 2012 semester — will vie for top honors for the 2011-12 school year. Continue reading

Team colors announced for May 19 Colors of the Rainbow finals

It’s that time of year again.

We’ve chosen the colors for the eight elementary schools who will compete in Dancing Classrooms Pittsburgh’s Colors of the Rainbow final team match.

The ballroom dance competition, sponsored by Mercy Behavioral Health, takes place on Saturday, May 19 beginning at 10 a.m. at Pittsburgh Allderdice High School. As always, the event is free and open to the public. Continue reading

Four elementary schools advance to Dancing Classrooms Pittsburgh final ballroom competition

Following ten weeks of bi-weekly lessons during the winter/spring 2012 semester, 96 fifth-grade students competed today in the Dancing Classrooms Pittsburgh Colors of the Rainbow semi-final team match.  Seven teams were from Pittsburgh Public Schools; one from an elementary school in Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh.

Of the eight schools, four will now advance to the 2011-12 Colors of the Rainbow final team match, scheduled for Saturday, May 19, 2012. Continue reading

Eight elementary schools to compete in May 5 Colors of the Rainbow semi-finals

Saturday, May 5 is the big day for 96 newly trained ballroom dancers from eight Pittsburgh elementary schools.

At the Colors of the Rainbow semi-final team match, fifth graders from seven Pittsburgh Public Schools and one Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh school will dance the Merengue, Rumba, Foxtrot, Tango, and Swing in front of a panel of  judges.

Based on their performances, four of the eight  teams will advance to the final round of competition for Dancing Classrooms Pittsburgh’s 2011-12 school year. Continue reading
