I know we havent posted anything for a little while, but we have been busy. A special thanks to Lorry Perkins and the incredible job on our online auction! Special thanks to our sponsors-Netsmart Technologies, TCR and Associates, and Fort Pitt Capital! We raised a little over $10,000!
We have been working on the schedule for next season, and are excited to announce that Pittsburgh Colfax has joined the mix for the 8th grade season! Mr. David May-Stein confirmed this the other day. Will Pittsburgh Colfax 8th graders bring home the 8th grade gold? We havent had a dual 5th/8th grade winner…..
Everyone have a great summer! Watch for little things here and there…….
It was a great Saturday at Pittsburgh Allderdice as our nine semifinal teams battled it out. Close as always….Here are the results. Gold teams adavnce to the finals Saturday May 2nd, 10am Pittsburgh Allderdice High School!
Shalom Chaverim! We finally did it!!! Finally? Yes, FINALLY! Well, not really finally because this is only the beginning. When I first met Miri Shahaf-Levi the summer of 2012 in New York City. The Annual Dancing Classrooms Site Director’s Conference. No sooner do I walk into the pre-conference festivities, than Pierre Dulaine grabs me by the arm to introduce me to Miri. We talked about our programs ( you have heard us talk about “Dancing in Jaffa,” she oversees Dancing Classrooms Israel.) and began a conversation of how can we connect Pittsburgh and Israel.
Fast forward to February 2015. Miri emails me and she tells me how Pittsburgh’s sister city in Israel, Karmiel, has two schools participating in Dancing Classrooms this year. We talk details – especially the time difference as Israel is 6 hours ahead. No problem as they will have their 20th lesson/Culminating event later in the day. Perfect! And when does everything go perfect????
Well, we did it. Wasn’t easy, but it was truly a great experience. Pittsburgh Linden ( special thanks to Ms Darla Jackson and parent volunteer, Mrs. Lori Smolar for all their help), Pittsburgh Colfax (Special thanks to Ms Conroy and Ms Stefanyak), and Pittsburgh Lincoln (special thanks to Principal Virginia HIll!) Face-timed and Skyped with the students at the Kalanit School and the Hadekel School in Karmiel, Israel. Wow! The Pittsburgh kids learned some Hebrew, cheered on their new “chaverim,” did the STOMP along with their chaverim at Kalanit School, and said “Todah Rabah (Thank You Very Much),” when it was time to say goodbye. Miri, we look forward to SKYPE-ing with our new friends again soon! Enjoy the pictures from this incredible event!! Thanks to everyone, but especially all of the kids-both here in Pittsburgh and in Karmiel! ( Thanks to our photographers from Dancing Classrooms Israel, Mark Rogalsky, Principal Virginia Hill, and Jennifer Hoffman!!!)
It was a beautiful sunny day. The young ladies and gentleman were elegant and filled with smiles. And the occasional set of butterflies. After 20 lessons, it came down to today. Who was the most proficient at the Merengue? Who was the smoothest when it came to the Foxtrot Who brought the bling in their Rumba? Which team Tango-ed into the judges hearts? Which team showed how to shake what their mamas gave them in the Swing? Sure there were four teams that will be moving on to the finals next week. I’ll get to that in a minute. But, as Mr Terry Sweeney says, lets show the love to the whole group. We had eight amazing schools out there today. They all looked fabulous. Smiles, bow ties, dresses, cummerbunds. and even more smiles. We are ail proud of what they have done. They started with pancakes-a simple way to get into dance frame, and now they have traveled the world of dance. They have become ladies and gentleman. Just take a look…..
and congratulations to our four teams who will be advancing to the finals next week:
Pittsburgh Miller, Pittsburgh Colfax Pittsburgh Linden, and Pittsburgh Phillips
watch for more pictures and other updates all week long. See you at Allderdice on May 11th 10am for the 5th grade finals!!!!!
